Who Do YOU Think You Are?

Contemplate this for a moment.

Who do you really think you are? Do you believe every criticism, every negative that has been said about you as an adult?

Are you defined by other people's thoughts and opinions?

The question, perhaps should be; are you your true self or an amalgamation of other people's assumptions?

When growing up from childhood to adulthood, we are guided by our parents, teachers and those who emanate authority. The reason we need this guidance is of course, for our own safety. As a baby and on to adolescence we are programmed to soak all information in order to keep us safe from potential death. It's as basic as that. Unfortunately, that also means, at the most critical stage of our existence as human beings we are not only being guided with positivity, we are also being guided in negativity. It's no one individual's fault - though it is easier to have someone to blame.

Now, in adulthood we are in a great position to start the growing process again. This time, growing from the inside and asking our "higher self" for guidance. I use the light bulb analogy a lot. I think it incapsulates what I am trying to put across.

We are all born with an internal light, a shining bright, powerful light. During life though, negative thoughts and opinions of others, various decisions, experiences and challenges- the inner light bulb begins to get covered in thick dust and the light dims. It isn't extinguished, more like a dimmer switch turning the brightness down. Under all of that dust is your true self.

Just as the physical growth from baby to young adult has a formula, a time span and in a lot of cases so much is going on underneath the flesh and bones, that to comprehend the magnitude of this process would blow our minds - growing our internal spiritual self will also take time, courage and belief.

To contemplate your higher self within, imagine for a little while being the witness. When you "step aside" and witness how your human self reacts and responds to situations - your higher self will be able to "see" how that situation developed and why. It takes some practice but really all it is, is changing the thought process.

Healing from within takes time and forgiving those who may have assisted unintentionally in creating the You, that you believe is You, will be the most challenging part of cleaning the dust away. We will not be extinguished and just knowing that simple fact will spur you on to get to know and form a positive, beautiful relationship with your "Higher Self".
